Radio Mirchi 93.3FM ...Toooo Hot???

Nowadays i am tuned to Radio mirchi 93.3FM....It is aired in Bangalore last month with the punch line "Sakath Hot maga" and already it is very very popular. Some of its programs are Hello bangalore,Bitti ticket, chill maadi. They are playing hot and new popular songs (only hindi and english) 24/7.The programs are very lively and the listeners get the latest news on traffic, city happenings along with many live competations and interviews.Sounds interesting????..
Well, here comes the other side,In Radio mirchi programs the RJ's try their level best to converse in kannada by mixing both english and kannada(in other words, its Kanglish).Eventhough Radio mirchi 93.3 FM is targetting Bangaloreans where 80%+ are kannadigas, not even one kannada song is played till now.Lot of songs are repeated on the same day. Some of its programs like sleevless sarsa and Polee-Pataaki are funny with lot of unnecessary PJs..
All in all,Radio mirchi 93.3FM is a very lively and 24/7 entertainment radio channel one can tune into, when they are bored. It really cheers you up.Being a kannadiga, one thing i really missed listening to Radio mirchi was Kannada songs..Eventhough the channel tries to convey its youth image(Radio mirchi thinks youth=hindi and english) i feel that it should consider all sections of people in bangalore and play some kannada songs too as it plays tamil songs in Chennai and telugu songs in Hyderabad and not to disappoint ppl (like me) who love to listen kannda songs from their favorite channel "Radio Mirchi 93.3FM".

Radio Mircji is really a Mirchi as for as kannadigas are considered. Only the announcements in Kanglish which is of course too many times foolish and no Kannada songs so far?
If at all this fm station has to survive at least 10 hours a day should be completely devoted for Kannada programmes- otherwise it will automatically disappear from Bangalore as its competetors Radio city 91 and Akashavanis fm stations would definitely attract Kannadigas and Radio Mirchi should be totally ornered in no time.

Kannada naadalli Kannadava Meresai not marisai? OK!

I fully agree-Please broadcast Kannada songs at least for 19 hours a day-otherwise the station will automatically disappears itself without listeners

hey stranger and S.Jayakumar..thanks for ur views..i think we all should do something in this direction and fight for our rights..we are not asking them to change them into a 24 hour kannda channel but just asking them to give preference to kannada in the land of kannada..which causes no harm to their image and also makes all kannadigas happy!!!

Mirchi is really hot. No one likes to listen to pure Kannada as it used to be in olden days. But definitely I agree that Kannada songs have to be played.

And Ani, ur blog has a pleasing appeal. Good work. You can also add the hit count. This is the first time I came across this blog, but could be some nth fan.

hey win.i am not against it or i am not forcing them. Its a request.I am not the only one, there are many like me..we are just requesting them to play some kannada songs. And i strongly beleive that there is no harm in it and it will not loose any market share..sometimes we feel as if we are discriminated when we hear Andhra and Tamil ppl tell that there they play only their language songs..y this discrimination???..its not against Radio mirchi its against discrimination in any form..lets think that after some years the non kannadigas will be more than 50% so u want karnataka to change its language itself bcoz those ppl cannot understand it..is Radio mirchi is in Bangalore only to satisfy non-Kannadigas?? and make profits..

Yes, i am a business student but i dont agree that business is only about profits and ROIs they should listen to peoples needs and wants bcoz if they continue like this they will succeed for a short run but to survive for a long run they should address local issues to engage all sections of ppl otherwise i am sure it will sound boring and loose its loyalty base..if i was in this business definitely i would have localised the programs such that it reaches all sections of ppl in Karnataka...

u saw Da vinci Code and u wrote ur views..many christians including u would have found the movie offencive bcoz it hurts ur sentiments..then how shuld i describe u ppl???...same here, when i tuned into Radio mirchi i observed these things and i expressed..

when british ruled us we could not bear their dominance and we fought for our independence..y???..bcoz we dint tolerate ppl of some other country to rule our land..we all thought its our right to fight against them..same here but at a micro level..y u feel that this case is different?..our neighbouring ppl are only discriminating us.if u think that ppl who raise their voice against these issues are fanatics..yes i am a fanatic. i am a fan of Kannada language.

Hi Winson,
Pls note that our nation is a union of states based on the concept of unity in diversity. It’s similar to the EU. The states have been formed on linguistic basis and the state language should be given utmost importance in their respective states. All the private and public sector companies operating in Karnataka should give top priority to Kannada over other languages. Radio Mirchi not giving prominence to Kannada translates to them disrespecting the constitution and the federal structure of the nation.

Hi Winson,

Can u explain me why I need to think in business or corporate terms?? I being a Kannadiga I am clear of the terms, in which I should think.
I think in terms of "Kannada".
The corporate be it global or national should localize themselves to the region in which they are operating. Motorola being a global company sells Japanese handsets in Japan, Spanish handsets in Spain and French handsets in France. You might have seen the Shell petrol bunks in Bangalore. Each and every board of Shell petrol bunks are in Kannada. The same should be followed by any global company whether it's Levies, Lee, Coke or Pepsi. On the same lines even Radio Mirchi should localize itself in Karnataka much the same way as they have localized themselves in Chennai and Hyderabad.

For Corporate/business men sustainability and profits are the ‘major priority’.
Services, value additions, customer satisfaction, branding, advertising, local programming etc are employed/not employed based on their business model to achieve their objectives.

When the corporate have ‘profits as their main objective/priority’, should they be allowed to operate on their own terms?? Will the corporate ever take the moral responsibility of saving the language and culture?? Shouldn’t there be any authority regulating the operations of the corporate??

When it comes to issues such as language, culture, nation the corporate or business men shouldn’t be trusted as they would be ready to make money at the cost of all these.
If you are thinking purely in business terms then it means that you are totally not concerned about the language and culture. When you think in terms of Corporate language, culture becomes a tool for achieving the business objective and never do they become the priority.
The business should be ultimately controlled by the local people and the local authorities; and that is the reason why the global companies localize themselves in the areas where they are operating. The Cell phone companies can create market for English cell phones in Japan, France or Spain. Creating a homogenous English market would make business more profitable for them, but ultimately the Japanese or French’s concerns about their language/nation downplay the business instincts of these corporate.
Shell with its operations spanned across the globe understands the sensitivity of these issues and hence has localized itself in Karnataka.

Radio Mirchi, Radio City aren’t localizing in Karnataka not becoz people don't listen to Kannada songs but because of their pure corporate view; broader outlook towards business and narrow outlook towards Kannada. When RC/RM say that they have concerns towards local language but never manifest the same in their programs it shows the sheer hypocritical and immoral nature of these people
RC / RM buy Hindi audio rights in bulk and produce the same in Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkota… and even in Bangalore. Instead of investing money on buying the audio rights of Kannada they pay 5-10% extra and produce the same in Bangalore too.
Radio Mirchi/Radio city playing Hindi songs is a part of much larger agenda of creating Hindi market in Bangalore. But the same can't happen in Hyderabad and Chennai coz the local people would protest the same. Even in Bangalore the protest against the private FM channels has started and when it reaches a threshold the FM Radio channels should either start programming in Kannada or should shut down their offices.

Ultimately for Kannadigas the sustenance of Kannada matters and not the sustenance of ENIL (which owns Radio Mirchi, STAR group (which owns Radio City) or any other corporate.

Bharath,
First things first, thanks for sharing those
views. I really second your thoughts.

Well, their rigged poll sounds very funny. They have got licence for 40-70KM range, but their survey or poll is always centralised arnd MG,Brigade,IndiraNagar. Which hardly constitues to 4KM Radius.

Lets understand that, they are here for some vested interests and they think we are taken for granted.
As a famous quote goes "Crying Baby gets the milk", we have to protest their step mother attitude.

I wonder really how deaf these radiocity and radio mirchi people are. There must be tons of email and phone calls to them. Its really shocking that radiomirchi has totally neglected kannada songs. At start it attracted people just because they talked in kannada. but what matters more is songs. What they are doing is even more dangerous to us than talking in english. they are indirctly telling us forget kannada film industry. check out my blog http://obbakannadiga.blogspot.com you can find email and sms numbers of these two dangerous radio stations. Just protest by all the possible ways.

Hi Anitha,
don't get hurt with what i'am going to say. i feel u are right that kannada songs must be played in radio mirchi, they can do these by alloting 2 or even 4 hours for this. but when u say that the british did a wrong thing by coming to bangalore and spreading their culture, don't u think that bangalore had become popular because of their rule? and what now..what about the infrastructure? people in Bangalore have destroyed the Victoria hotel and now there are rumours that people are trying to destroy the age old coffee house in MG road. i feel sad when people try to destroy old structures which had given a international status to Bangalore.in a similar way if u say that kannada should rule over hindi/english then u may find a day when both radio city and radio mirchi would be out of Bangalore!

( i once again say that these are just my opinions and in no way meant to hurt u )

anyways good news for u!
i live in mangalore so i'am not sure about what radio stations u have but i think KAL radio are going to play just kannada songs then there is BIG 92.7 FM. plus u have FM rainbow. U people are lucky coz u have so many radio stations! we have 4 radio stations that are yet to be launched, it's BIG 92.7, radio mirchi, KAL radio, and a radio channel from century comm. i know that 2 of these stations are going to be just kannada! not sure about radio mirchi and century comm. it would be better if the other two would be devoted to just hindi and english.

Dear Friends, I am Kannadiga. Every State person love their State Culture and Language. If any one coming from other place they have to Co-operate with their culture and their language. Not from their native. If that is so why the Hell they have to come here. Why dont they die their itself why they have to Spoil Kannada Culture and Karanataka. Give respect take respect. If you want to be in Karnataka respect kannada people and their culture if not. You are always welcome to move out from this state.

Thanks and regards.

guys.. kanadigas are named for calm and cool going guys... why unnecessarily fighting for these.... bangalore is already spoiled by lot of different culture.. we can't do anything now... we have to live with it... atleast we are getting international name for the city, like london, newyork...
british did some good thing, but local politician and indian central goverment forced everyone to study hidhi... which allowed we to communicate easily with everyone... and them to us.. which made them to migrate our place easily and spoiling our language and culture...

we can't do anything/.. atleast we have to start communicate to our people with our own language...

see chennai, 60 year old city.. still it is running good on their culture... why? they speak only their own language...
